Moving tomorrow . . . 

  • Transfer bank accounts.
  • If you're moving to an area that requires animals to be immunized, take all animals to the vet for immunization.
  • Your safety deposit box will have to be closed and make sure to gather all your belongings.
  • Any bills with local businesses will need to be settled.
  • Drain equipment such as lawn-mowers or power tools of oil or gas. If you intend to bring outside water hoses, make sure they are drained as well.
  • If you have extra plants that can't be moved, find a new home for them.
  • Double check your travel reservations, (hotel, flight, etc.).
  • If you have a waterbed, allow time for draining.
  • Be sure to fully defrost the refrigerator and freezer.
  • Allow the movers to begin to pack your belongings, unless you are the movers!
  • All major appliances must be disconnected and ready for the move.
  • Make sure to set aside any items that you would like to travel in your car so they do not get overlooked and end up on the moving truck.
  • Consider the items that will be needed immediately at your new house. You may want to pack a specific box to load on the truck last.
  • Make sure you have a method to pay the movers.
  • Confirm the rental truck or time that the movers will arrive.
  • Disassemble beds, tables and other large items if you are moving yourself.

 Moving Day! 


  • Someone also be at the new house to give instructions if you are using a moving company.
  • Check the utility meter readings.
  • If you are using a moving company, examine the bill of lading and keep a careful inventory. Make sure to keep this information in a safe place.
