Powell Elementary Paideia Community Academy8

Overall, Powell Academy was a decent place for my child's education. With that said, however, Powell Academy was riddle with problems. I spent a few time frustrated. The main problem lies partly with CPS( Chicago Public School) set up. This is a K-8. This is not efficient for the upper grade levels, nor was it departmental( multiple teachers/ classroom switching for upper grade levels) This cause and excuse a lot of muddle-cuddling at an age where student should have been introduce to independence. The next major problem was the tyrannical attitude of the principal. This school was seriously define by it's racial make-up and economic of community. This may explain why it was unnecessarily ridged . For instance, many student were suspended for not having on the right shoes, belts ( uniform school --another drawback) Finally I must say, under the circumstances of the school ,the student were well adjusted( not at all define by irrelevancies) On the surface the curriculum tried be rigorous. Powell Academy wants to be a good school but need serious improvements

I love the Powell School! The kids there seem happy and excited to be there when I visited December. The parents are welcomed there. The staff and administration want parents to be involved with their kids' education through Family Literacy Night and Family Math Night. Getting involved is the best way to improve academic performance. I really enjoyed attended these two nights with my kids. The teachers there want to teach and not just the basics. In addition to the academics, they also help develop the emotional and social lives of the kids. The teachers, administrators and support staff approach to education is the WHOLE child.

Everyone at Powell Academy should be commended for your efforts to provide Powell students with wonderful educational opportunities and events. I was very impressed with the Science Fair in November. I was impressed with the projects and the manner in which the students presented themselves. Thank you for inviting parents to participate in this wonderful Science Fair. Congratulations to the Powell administration,Mr. Jordan and Ms. Peagler, and teaching staff for motivating the students to do such excellent work. As a parent I am thankful for all you have done year after year to help my child and support me as a parent by letting me actively participate in my child's educational experience. I am looking forward to the next Powell school event.

Powell has committed teachers, dedicated parents and a no nonsense administration. It's an example of a successful neighborhood school. Powell is now in a new state of the art facility and the staff and administration are moving the school in the right direction. As parents we should come together to make sure our children continue to receive a quality education.

This school is a disappointment, the principle is rude and does not appreciate unique characteristics in each child. ALL the staff is rude to the parents. We aren't allowed to discuss our concerns regarding school work, ect. and they charge to enroll. My daughter's kindergarden teacher gives assignments that aren't clear to me or my child. 5 thumbs down

I have had a horrible experience with Powell. The principal & his administration have a lot of issues that they bring to the school. My child HAD been there for 5 years & I only met 2 teachers who really wanted to help the students. I would not send my child to this school if I had a choice.

I am very displeased with the school. They are extremely unprofessional, they discourage parent involvement, they do not care about the children; they yell and talk negatively to the children. The administators have horrible attitudes, some teachers are unorganized and uptight. They are not preparing our children for success.

I concur. The administrators aren't warm and friendly. You are treated like and outsider. When I pick up my child in the afternoon, the children are wild and out of control on a daily basis. There is no order. Some days you are made to feel like the enemy. I feel this needs to change, now.

This school is a three ring circus. The administrators are unprofessional and tackless. The teachers try to do their best, but are not supported by the principal and vice principal, whom lack integrity. There are no extra-activities. Teachers and parents are automatically made to feel like enemies by the administration. Parents are not welcome in the building either. Students are treated horribly by administration. There are fights everyday. It is not a safe enviornment.
